i-VTEC (intelligent-Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control System)
Compared to the VTEC system, the i-VTEC system adds a VTC mechanism to the VTEC system, namely i-VTEC = VTEC + VTC. To obtain valve timing for the optimum operating condition, the ECU exercises load control for the VTC oil pressure control valve, supplies oil pressure to the intake advance angle oil pressure chamber or intake delay angle oil pressure chamber in the VTC actuator. The VTC actuator will then change the camshaft’s phase depending on the oil pressure supplied to obtain the best timing phase under this load.
